The supermodel Veruschka conjures up many images: writhing like a sexthing for a snapping photographer in Blow Up, towering over everyone as an amazon, or covered in body paint as an animalistic prowess. Born Vera von Lehndorff in East Prussia, her dad tried to kill Hitler with the German Resistance, but failed and was assassinated. She stayed in various camps and stints in 13 schools and children called her a 'stork'. And usually when one is made fun of in school by shitty little kids for being gawky and tall, they become supermodels.

Starting out as a virtual unknown in NYC, and being dissed by Eileen Ford, she created the moniker of Veruschka, a name which pretty much gives off a whiff of sexuality, and adapted a alluring Russian background that rapt the fashion world. She appeared on 11 covers of Vogue and adapted a penchant for body paint. She took advantage of being a sixties bombshell and hooked up with a lineup of those virile Hollywood leading men back in the days (Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman, etc.) She was always my favorite supermodel, what with her mysterious persona, penchant for promiscuity, and goodness I wanted her legs.

Currently, Veruschka roams around and lives in Berlin and is a devoted cat lady and artist.

Nylon turns to Mischa Barton as its covergirl for the August cover, athough the last I saw her was as Marissa Cooper dying off in the arms of Ryan in the OC, which was back in 2006. Since then, it seems that her occupation was gallavanting around Los Angeles in questionably hipsterish hotpants and the like. Well, fresh out a DUI and a cellulite scandal, she has finally has two movies coming out, none of which has to do with being a overprivileged Orange County teenager with self-destructive qualities. And yes, I know I am totally revealing myself as a fan of the OC, I just love Princess Sparkles, so sue me. Well she absolves herself in Nylon, presumeably styled in the vein of Jane Birkin, what with the tousled bangs and the multitude of vintage denim. That, combined with the "day after great sex" look, Mischa has put her mugshot days behind her. At least I hope so.

The Amy Winehouse influence on fashion has been far and wide, almost to an Agyness Deyn-like vexation. Even as she goes through a downward spiral, she's been emulated sickeningly from Chanel to French Vogue. However, I admit to being under the influence of Winehouse at times, slathering on more black eyeliner than necessary or fucking my hair up into a bouffant nest. But I really liked Korean Numero's take on the troubled singer, featuring my favorite model, Daul Kim, carrying the weight of a small child on her head in the form of a beehive do. How fun!

Also, check out Daul's blog, I Like To Fork Myself, full of amusing and enjoyably morbid tribulations on fashion, art, culture, philosophy, and pet hamsters. Seriously her take on Steve Aoki's "dj-ing" is more than enough reason for me to admire her more.

I haven't heard Mary Kate speak for about a decade, so it was quite a surprise to see her amble out on David Letterman last night, promoting her film, "The Wackness" in all her disheveled bag lady glory. I found her quite charming actually, with her nonchalant old-lady posture, insane nest-like bedhead and dazed stoned out voice. Ooooh and I love how she totally capped on that douchebag Spencer Pratt and his little temper tantrums on the soccer field when they were in high school. Inside, the articles tells of how the two are BFFS in real life, discounting any feud rumors, the fabulous fashions, etc. etc. ~~Anywho, I wonder why Serena Van Der Woodsen gets the cover while Leighton Meester aka Blair Waldorf, is just featured on the inside. Couldn't there be double covers?~~* Seriously I find Blair more entertaining what with her bitchy quips and haughty elitism. Call me a flip flopper: Catherine McNeil can model. Goodness, I am the prime example of a McNeil hypocrite- first I laud her potential, then I pick at her damn eating habits, and her myspacey pictures. Now I say she grew from having one face to a plethora of expressions and contortions, as seen in this Numéro 92 April 2008 editorial shot by Greg Kadel. Perhaps its the bouffant hair, or McNeil's interpretation of the screaming Marc Jacobs mask (below), but I feel that girl gots variation in the face. If this doesn't convert all the McNeil critics, I don't know what will. I mean she grew out of that blah pretty face, when Mario Testino had that thing for her. What a difference a few seasons can make.

alice burdeu and "top model"

Tyra's "Top Model" franchise hasn't only produced mediocrity; a winner actually emerged from her show: Alice Burdeu. She has broke the barrier between being a "Top Model" Winner and becoming an actual, well, model. Granted, the girl won "Australia's Next Top Model", but it still astounds me when actual successful models are produced out of the Ms. Bank's franchise, when the typical advice is to "smile with your eyes" or "squint to add eye intensity".

With her porcelain doll mug and Elson red hair, Alice Burdeu took advantage of the Elite contract she won, and ended up shuttling to New York, where she walked in Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Marchesa, amongst others. Not only did she score big runway mileage in New York, she totally went to Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Moschino in Milan and walked Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten, McQueen, and others in Paris. And you know you dug yourself out of the stagnant depths of Top Model-dom when you've got a style.com and nymag profile, and constant hype and publicity.

I mean really, the American winners get contracts with Elite (an agency which is gaining momentum, what with head bobber Karlie Kloss and Ali Stephens) and Tyra shovels on a CoverGirl contract to top things off. Even after 10 cycles, America's Next Top Model winners have faded into obscurity while a rising star like Alice has risen to the top. Now, can someone demystify this contrast between the "winners" from America's Next Top Model and Alice Burdeu? Could it be Tyra's obssession with putting ratty weaves and extensions in the girl's hair during makeover time? Discuss.

The only show she walked in over there was the Yohji Yamamoto show. Quite a departure from the Parisian runways she walked in last year, which included Dior, Chanel, Lanvin, Christian Lacroix. It's all sorts of heartwrenching, no matter how omnipresent concave models are. I mean, in the picture at left, look at the Lily Donaldson (I had to look it up on style.com to make sure) in the pink dress next to Ali, leaning over. Ouch.

The 2008 election is full of constant chaos on both sides, with all that bizness concerning Hillary's schizophrenic antics with Obama, Obama's unstoppable momentum, delegates, supernumerarypenultimatedelegates etc. etc. It's rather overwhelming. Why not let loose with a delightful tee showcasing ya candidate of choice. The Obama shirt, $25, made by San Francisco company Upper Playground, is a hit amongst Hollywood stars like Ryan Phillipe. Usually, its Forever 21 or H&M coping off other designers clothes. Heck, F21 even copied the Proenza Schouler for Target line. But Marc Jacobs, just basically slapped "Marc Jacobs 1984" onto a scarf made in Harjedalen, Sweden by Gosta Olofsson in the 1950s. Olofsson celebrated the village by designing a limited quantity of scarves depicting jovial bears and quaint churches. Olofsson has attempted to contact MJ, to no avail...yet. Hm, I wonder how MJ will talk himself out of this one...maybe a sincere blog comment a la Cathy Horyn?

Duro Olowu is all about the printz - floral, floaty, chiffon print dresses. I first saw his designs in (ha), US Vogue, and was piqued by the sweeping floral creations. Of course, then I totally googled him, and found bits and pieces of his biography. Born in Nigeria, Olowu first started out as a lawyer before delving into fashion. His signature "Duro" dresses, with the empire waist billowing and the vivid prints, caught the eye of US and British Vogue. He eventually won "New Designer of the Year" in 2005 at the British Fashion Awards. He is influenced by both Nigeria and England in his designs, what with the innovative London and the culture of Lagos, his hometown. I must give kudos to La Wintour for featuring him, there I said it.

They already ceased production on instant cameras, and will only make enough film to last through this year. Rodarte has hyped far and beyond, while being labeled as a mere show of cheap arts and crafts, and notoriously dismissed by Cathy Horyn as "shapeless sacks". Frankly, I can't see any fault in the sisters Mulleavy. They have shown another collection of beautiful chiffon genius, with dresses as sheer as the stick-thin models wearing them (see Karlie Kloss, above). Again, another collection inspired by Japan, this time by the horror element of the culture. And the gothic and ghostly makeup prevent the clothes from veering towards saccharine sweet prettiness. Although, is it wrong to say I want to wear Rodarte to my prom?

Oooh so the bubble hem isn't dead! At least according to John Galliano for the Christian Dior Spring 08 couture show. Evidently, it appears to be the year of the poufy skirt, billowing in voluminous sheaths of satins. This bout sixties excess is all the more apt with the eyecatching symbolist designs reminiscent of Gustav Klimt. Editorial-friendly, It's the typico Galliano faire, with vibrant shocks of color, pounds of glittery eye makeup, courtesy of the wonderous Pat McGrath, and finger in the socket/tight updos, which he said was inspired by Vreeland. And I wouldn't mind teetering on those delectable magenta pumps, ooers. God knows I could use those extra 6 inches of height.

I was salivating for the next W magazine Art issue - remember the phantasmagoric Eden edit. by Mario Sorrenti and Richard Tuttle? And me love me some Richard Prince, who was touted as the feature story in this issue. However, this year's art issue is truly puzzling. First of all the cover: Plain and simple, it's just a red carpet image ripped off from Getty Images, with a manipulation of the autograph by Prince himself. Then he uses a gaggle of other celebrities and shIT girls and etchs their autographs onto paparazzi pictures as well. I know Prince is fond of reproducing photographs to his own liking, copyright infringements be damned. Tis' be art, or is W going the way of the US Weekly?

I have only recently realized the wonderous Marilyn Minter. Born in 1948, Minter has since been making painting and photographs of close-up glamour, fashion and sex sex SEX. OVERALL, New York fashion week was a - how do you say it -underwhelming, repetitive, and uninspiring this season (as has been for many seasons actually). The show me and the rest of fashionland was anticipating - Marc Jacobs- totally deflated my...er, fashion boner. As crass as I may sound, I thought Marc would blow la Wintour and Menkes away with a sumptious collection, since the show did start 2 HOURS LATE. But critics have lambasted the delay which overshadowed the actual collection.

Fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune Suzy Menkes even said she would like to "murder [Marc] with her bare hands and never see another Marc Jacobs show as long as I live. " She also blasphemed Jacobs in her review, calling the collection "a freak's costume party", and accuses him of copycatting Rei Kawakubo, Martin Margiela, and John Galliano.

Village Voice's Lynn Yaeger said, "Only when I got to the front door at 9 [did I find out it was late]. I am livid. I don't know what to do. On the one hand, I feel like it's the most special night in fashion, on the other hand, I want to go home. It remains to be seen if he'll get away with it. I can't imagine what excuse you would have."

Elle creative director Joe Zee just wanted to "have more margaritas".

Rumors aswirled that he was at the Mercer, nursing a drink. There were whispers of a coke run. Marc's fiery defense:

"That is bullshit! That is bullshit!...I was at the f---ing office until the last fitting was over. I came back to the hotel — I hadn't been here in three days! I hadn't showered in three days! I slept on the couch in my office for 20 minutes three nights in a row — anyone at my office will tell you that. I got 20 minutes sleep Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night. The first shower I had was Monday at 8 before the rehearsal of our show. I did not have lunch, I did not have drinks, I did not have tea at the Mercer, I walked through the lobby; I live in this hotel. I hadn't been there — ask the reception at the hotel. When they saw me on Monday, they were like, 'We haven't seen you in days.' I lived in my office for three days in a row....My boyfriend was downstairs having dinner. I wasn't. I was at the rehearsal, I was at the office until the last minute. I took 20 minutes to shower and shave — I stank like a raccoon! I could not go to the show like that."

He also believes the combination of bumping up of fashion week two weeks early during Jewish holidays, with the closure of Italian factories in August, and his other collections (Marc by Marc, Marc by Marc Mens, Vuitton) is validation enough for the delay, and that it was good enough that he even showed at all. The fuming Marc is so "f-ing" mad that he is threatening not to show at NYFW at all and move all the way to Paris - with CFDA prez Diane von Furstenberg grovelling at at his feet for him to stay. It would be devastating for NY to show without MJ. We Americans would be left with Kimora Lee and Gwen Stefani as our homegrown designing stars. NOOOOO!

Yes, Marc has always been a notoriously late and anticipated show, but are the critics right - did he keep them waiting 2 hours too long? Or is Marc right, that he just was overworked, underappreciated, just didn't want to "stank like a raccoon"? Or maybe as his muscles inflate, so does his ego.

BUT on to what is important - the clothes!

The clothes that followed were, a bit below par, disappointing. This was more like Marc by Marc collection rather than the official eponymous collection. This is only my weak teenage observation, but there was a whole lot of half-assed garments. Jacobs said about the concept: "It's cartoon versions of all the women I know—conservative types, vamps, everybody." But the pastel color scheme and hair were all too remiscent of Comme des Garçons Fall 07 RTW. In addition, there were longshirts with an iron-on number on them that would probably take the average person mintues to concoct.

Also, a tad too much messy sheer shat.

However, I did find some of the frocks rather lovely

The shoes were insane! Heel coming from the ball of the foot?! A foot fetishist's dream.

The hair and makeup made me think of frazzled haired librarians who get a little on the side, judging from the provocateur aspect of the show.

All in all, I may sound a bit like a Marc-hater, but I am a Marc-o-phile at heart. But I tend to get a bit queasy when I see him design something like this:
